Clean eating, simple ingredients, advanced processes, and long standing partnerships can be found at the Springfield Oregon Franz Bakery site located in the Glenwood neighborhood.
Constructed in 2005, Franz Bakery was recruited to its 15 acre Springfield site in an effort to support their need to both relocate and modernize. The initial recruitment project was supported with extended local property tax abatements, coordination of creative public private partnerships for land assembly and infrastructure development, and investments in critical rail service to the site.
By 2017, the 150,000 SF site had been fully operational for over 10 years and with over 200 full time employees. Tax abatements were no longer active and Franz was again beginning to evaluate opportunities for company expansion on the west coast.
The City of Springfield worked to partner again to support expansion of our existing employer, supporting the competitive project which resulted in the 2018, $20 million, 44,000 SF expansion. The project was supported by the City of Springfield through a second extended property tax abatement and a Springfield Economic Development Agency (urban renewal board) systems development charge payment on behalf of the project.
Franz Bakery opened the doors to its substantial expansion in 2019, adding a much-needed additional bread manufacturing line to be used for organic and specialty products. Today, the Springfield Franz site boasts over 200,000 sf of high-tech food manufacturing space and 260 employees.
