Senator Ron Wyden held a news conference Tuesday on federal infrastructure alongside Springfield Mayor Sean VanGordon and local business leaders.
Senator Wyden says June is the key month to weigh in on federal infrastructure investment, using his “Build America Bonds” approach, which focuses mainly on Oregon roads and bridges.
After the conference, he talked about some major items facing the country right now.
Wildfire efforts is one of those items - and certainly one people are wondering about as we begin entering scorching weather temperatures.
"I want to make sure we go in there and clean out those hazardous fuels for fire. We're going to get more funds to make sure additional people can be trained and I want some additional federal assistance for helping the local community. They're doing a great job building evacuation plans if necessary," said senator Wyden.
Another hot item on the agenda is moving quickly in congress on Capitol Hill, and has yet to be settled officially with congress.
Just recently in Washington D.C., the Police Reform Bill had passed the House, but has hurdles to pass through in the Senate.
President Biden says an update should come over the next few days.
Since George Floyd's murder last year, 3,000 policing-related bills have been introduced in state legislatures. \
Also, 30 states have enacted new police oversight and reform laws.
